As juniors at The University of Arizona, they may have met at a sorority party, but love was not Greek to them! After graduation, Dana moved to Phoenix to be closer to Matthew while she began her teaching career. Over the years, their relationship continued to flourish and blossomed into something much more meaningful and serious. Following a weekend trip to Flagstaff, Matthew made Dana the same meal he cooked for her on their first date (schwarma) and asked her to marry him. Yes, yes, yes!
It took a little more than a year for the big day to arrive. Dana and Matthew were joined by 165 of their closest friends and family members. The outdoor ceremony was located in a cactus garden with Camelback Mountain and a gorgeous fall sunset in the background. The wedding party was serenaded through the experience by a harpist who played both traditional and non-traditional wedding songs.
Following the ceremony, guests celebrated in an outdoor cocktail hour before enjoying an evening of dinner and dancing in the ballroom. The couple executed a well-choreographed dance to “In My Life” by The Beatles to start the evening and concluded with the cutting of their three-tiered wedding cake adorned with eggplant calla lilies and accompanied by a surprise University of Arizona baseball hat groom’s cake.
