Ryan and Ilene met through a mutual friend shortly after Ilene moved to Atlanta after graduating college from the University of Florida. While Ryan was very much into Ilene, she was dating someone else (and plus, he went to her rival school, The Florida State University). After many months and much persistence, Ryan finally got a shot with Ilene when the two took a day trip to the small Bavarian town of Helen in the North Georgia mountains. After a few hours of playing in town, the two decided to hike to a nearby waterfall. This was the place of their first kiss. Three and a half years later, with the help of one of Ilene’s bridesmaids who was visiting town, Ryan was able to get Ilene back to that same waterfall where they shared their first date and kiss and surprised her with the perfect proposal.
Since Ilene is from South Florida, the two decided to have a destination wedding in Fort Lauderdale, which they thought would be the perfect mini vacation for their family and friends to take during Memorial Weekend. Having Rabbi Plotkin officiate was very special to Ilene, as she was baby named, Bat Mitzvahed, and confirmed by her family’s rabbi. Because so many of Ilene and Ryan’s friends had not attended a Jewish wedding before, they asked Rabbi Plotkin to explain the customs of the ceremony and reasons behind the traditions. The party was crazy, as friends and family danced non-stop until the late hours of the night. The guests were having such a great time celebrating that when the band stopped playing, everyone cheered, “One more song!” and the party continued a bit more!
