{Real Jewish Weddings} Florence, Italy

Having developed a love of fine shoes late in life, it was upon wearing a newly-acquired pair of red velvet Marc Jacobs heels that Lauren met Joe — or rather Joe spied Lauren’s red shoes — as she crossed the road to attend a plush London soiree. It so happened that Joe was also attending the same event and spent the rest of the evening trying to find the owner of the red shoes. Eventually, after much searching, he did and they hit it off immediately. The rest, as they say, is history and Lauren and Joe were married in the incredible grounds of ‘La Sorgente di Francesca’ — a lovingly-restored Borgo dating back to 1400, which nestles gently in the rolling Tuscan hills of the ancient village of Fiesole, just outside Florence.

Before the wedding. the couple were photographed around Florence with Lauren wearing her red shoes in a nod to how they first met. The following day, wearing an elegant, beaded strapless dress, flowers in her hair, and carrying a bouquet of cream roses, gardenias and jasmine, Lauren married Joe who wore a suit he’d had handmade in Venice with a Scottish thistle as his button.

Following an intimate chuppah ceremony, their guests enjoyed an aperitivo of local delicacies and fine wine and relaxed by the poolside in the warm afternoon sunshine, as the sound of jazz filled the air. After the official photographs that included shots of the beautiful surroundings and Tuscan scenery, the couple and their guests were piped into dinner by a Scot’s piper before dining on a feast of Italian specialities at a square table decorated with sunflowers. Later in the evening after the sun had gone down, the courtyard became their dance floor where the jazz band took to the stage once more to entertain Lauren, Joe and their guest as they danced under the stars.

{Real Jewish Weddings} Costa Rica

Sara & BJ are both busy lawyers in the heart of Manhattan. They wanted to let their hair down, relax, and dance the night away with their nearest and dearest for the big day. So they opted for a destination wedding in sunny Costa Rica. They chose sunny Tamarindo to say “I do,” and the picture-perfect Hacienda Pinilla was a lovely venue for there over 120 guests.

Sara wore super cute blue shoes for her something blue. Their friend Abby designed the darling invites. BJ created the fun crossword puzzle that went with the playful and colourful program. BJ’s mom created the custom tags and bags that were provided to all the guests. The lovely flowers gave each table and napkin that “picked from the garden” feel. The table numbers were simple, but perfectly elegant glass wine bottle filled with Costa Rica beach sand. The sweet “Señor” and “Señora” signs on the back of BJ’s and Sara’s chairs provided that destination wedding, local touch. Larger than life blackboard was created to showcase the seating chart and was written by hand for a more personalized feel. And keeping up with the colorful vibe of the day, the bridesmaid dresses were not actual “bridesmaid dresses,” but they were so perfect for a destinations wedding with the cool, flowy fabric. Since they could be styled in any way, each bridesmaid added her personal twist and the dresses looked great on all the girls.

Whoever says it is hard to plan a Jewish destination wedding hasn’t seen Sara & BJ’s wedding yet. They brought over their Rabbi to marry them and their chuppah was beautiful with a backdrop to the ocean.

You may think that because you’re intending to have some sort of Jewish wedding, that there’s no way you could also enjoy a destination wedding. Well, that’s not true. As a a woman who loves weddings and with a big bite from the travel bug, I can tell you that destination weddings are special and memorable.

There are many reasons a destination wedding can be the perfect choice for you and your fiance. Imagine standing on a beautiful beach with the ocean behind, or on a cliff with a village below you, or in a garden with a winery around you — all while saying your vows!

Destination Weddings

Getting married in your own special-to-you locale is such a special way to say “I do!” and will create memories that will last forever. I’ve recently had an opportunity to visit the Cancun/Riviera Maya area and experience for myself how amazing this experience would be. The resorts in the Riviera Maya area, especially, provide so many options for the couples.

If you’re nervous about planning the details of your wedding in advance from afar, take a deep breath and relax. The resorts have wedding coordinators who can assist you with all of your planning so this will really make the planning process easy. They eliminate so much stress and provide you the opportunity to thoroughly enjoy this special time in you lives. You won’t need to worry about the nitty gritty during the other exciting parts of your bridal experience like wedding showers and bachelorette parties. Focus on those events and being present for them. Let your destination wedding coordinator handle the rest with your input, of course.

If you’re inviting a group of guests to join you for your destination wedding, I do recommend hiring a travel professional to coordinate the guests’ travel arrangements. Coordinating how your guests will travel can be quite involved and time consuming, and if the whole point is to relieve you of some of the dirty work, then there’s no sense in you scheduling all of your loved ones, too. A travel professional like me can provide the most cost effective way for your guests to arrive and depart, while also making some luxurious and convenient plans for everyone. We also, often times, have connections with the resorts and this will provide you and your guests with added values you may not receive by booking directly yourself.

So go ahead — close your eyes and imagine your happy place. Want to get married there? It can happen! Mazel tov, on your upcoming wedding!
